Founded in 2017, Umami is a company which sells Bento lunch boxes across France, Germany, Italy, Spain and UK. Those Bento boxes are known for keeping the food fresh in a chic, durable and easy-to-use material.
Pretty successful in 2018 on Amazon France, Umami wanted to continue growing the business. Geo-expansion is clearly the main pathway to achieve it. And Amazon is a wonderful playground to test and accelerate on new markets. But new markets means: new languages, additional headcounts, time-consuming campaigns, and uncontrolled scale.
This is how Umami decided to work with m19 Technology. Delegating the Sponsored Products Geo-Expansion and language management to Machine Learning. m19 is a Retail Saas which enables the Sellers and Vendors to control and accelerate their sales on any Amazon marketplace. It leverages Machine Learning Algorithms and optimizes campaign management and bids according to a performance goal. All the media trading operations are handled by the m19 technology while the Sellers and/or the Vendors can focus on their business.
"Thanks to m19's algorithms, I could tackle the geo-expansion of my product. I kept the same team, languages were not a problem, and the results I got were outstanding!" - Etienne Ameil, founder of Umami
In 9 months, Umami exceeded its goal. Its revenue grew by a 3x factors while its Advertising Cost of Sales remained flat. France, its largest market, kept on growing, but the other European countries now weight more than 50% of the total business. Umami managed a three fold challenge: continue growing its historical market, reduce its dependency on it and, more important, of expand in 4 new markets : Germany, Italy, Spain and UK which grew 330%!
